Challenge
How with the help of AI can we allow users to create digital avatars with realistic appearance and voice so they can use it for video creation and fun?

Understand
Context
With new company focus on AI, there were multiple initiatives of introducing new powerful capabilities of this new technology to video creation and to our users.
Together with the team we brainstormed to generate ideas that we can quickly build and ship as AI trend was hot and very promising in the market.
Discovery
Through 10 user interviews and analysis of whole video creation user journey & usage data our team made several important realizations. Here are some of them:

Ideate + Iterate
I sketched out and then wireframed a few different user flows for the app.
We eventually settled on Direction B, focusing on Avatar creation first rather than on script and pre-made avatars. Key reasons for that were the insights from discovery stage & the pursue of the “wow” effect.

Polish
After converging on the design direction, I polished the designs and built a quick prototype.
Create Avatar
Create your own avatar in a couple taps: select photos and tap Generate. As simple as that. Of course not any photos would work well.




Add Voice
Next, select how to make a voice over: through manual narration or generate voice with the help of AI.





Add Script
Finally, as user generated a voice, he can now simply give a text prompt (script) and AI will narrate it and combine with the Avatar and make it look realistic in the final result.
App Icon
I wanted the app icon to stand out from the rest but keep certain amount of connection to Invideo brand. That’s how the colors were picked and the overall style through exploration evolved towards having less minimalism and flat design, and more neomorphism elements, gradients, glow effects.

Results
In fast pace we designed, developed and shipped the app to the market. Initial feedback was good, Invideo users found the app pretty useful in their workflow, we saw an increase in Completed videos and pretty high usage numbers.
